Hideous photo, eh? Hideous reality.
You don’t need statistics or factoids to know that garbage is disgusting, that recycling is a band-aid on a broken limb, or that the planet is covered with old plastic straws, plastic bags, old Starbucks lids, and other cast-offs from those of us who certainly don’t feel selfish, but are living like the world is our own personal dumpster.
What to do? Where to start?
Let’s try Plastic Free July. Do your damnedest to avoid single-use plastics this month and start brainstorming replacements and alternatives to your usual waste-producing habits. Could you commit to using the cloth bags you have instead of plastic ones? Could you buy the loose carrots instead of the bagged ones?
We’ve all grown accustomed to short-sighted, wasteful living habits, and changing will probably suck. Stretch yourself. Small changes matter.
Will you commit to trying Plastic Free July this year? I’m already struggling, but I’m in.
