A recent earworm:
Keep your mind on your drivin’
Keep your hands on the wheel
Keep your snoopy eyes on the road ahead
After humming it five or ten thousand times, I started applying its wisdom to non-driving situations. Try it yourself:
Are you spending far too much energy and free time on pleasant fluff, not problem-solving and personal growth? Keep your mind on your drivin’.
Have your been drifting aimlessly? Letting other people make all your decisions? Keep your hands on the wheel.
Do you crane your neck ogling everyone else’s ten-star dinners, island vacations, or dazzling career opportunities? Keep your snoopy eyes on the road ahead.
The rest of the chorus (we’re havin’ fun/sittin’ in the backseat/ kissin’ and a huggin’ with Fred) does not serve our purposes. I will spare you my feminist analysis of the text; for today, let’s take good advice wherever it crops up.
Does any of this advice apply to your life right now? What do you think those seven little girls could possibly see in Fred?
