This old letter from Ms. Mama reads as follows:
“Dear Sweet Rebekah,
I have found the absolute best yarn needle for weaving in ends. Here it is. And here are its many virtues.
Such a big eye that you can thread even a tiny end to weave it in.
two points, so you can sew edges together in a back and forth motion
+ it is blue. =)
Not only has mine been great for weaving sock toes together, it also is good for fixing loose stitches in knits which are often so short.
Aside from a note and a needle this is also a test of the snail mail from Bloomington to Dortmund.”
I’ve used the blue needle a number of times now, and it’s excellent. That long eye is perfect for working with not-enough thread— I keep wishing regular sewing needles were made this way.
The needle seems to be a Susan Bates Finishing Needle, and comes in a variety of sizes. Go forth and give ’em a shot.
