- olla podrida
Only four things! Either I’ve gotten smarter since Finishing the Hat, or Sondheim has taken pity on his less-educated readers.
I’m happy to know the word sententious now. To think I’ve been sententious AND gnomic all my life and didn’t have the right vocabulary with which to admit it.
An interesting read. I know much less (or “even less”) of Sondheim’s work from this era, so I have a lot of listening ahead of me.
***UPDATE*** Guess who just discovered a separate, long-lost list of words to look up while reading Look, I Made a Hat? So much for getting smarter!
- Per-ceived (why the hyphen? a typo?)
- Epon-ymous (again with the hyphen!)
Also note that Mr. Sondheim appears to love the phrase “died aborning.” Prepare to be surprised by how many things can die aborning in a single book.
