PSA: Domestic Violence Awareness Blog Carnival

A few nights ago, I watched Oliver!, the 1968 film version of the West End musical adaptation of Dickens’ Oliver Twist. Sorry, I don’t feel like improving that sentence. Tough it out.

ANYWAY, thinking about Bill Sikes naturally reminded me that Tori of Anytime Yoga is putting together a blog carnival for Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

If you have a story related to domestic violence that you’d like to share, follow the above link for plenty o’ details.

Even if you don’t have a story to submit, you can help spread the word via your blog, Facebook, Twitter, whatever online communities you inhabit… something will come to you.

Thank you.

  • I am impressed that this was shared with a reference to one of only two Dickens novels that I have read all the way through. (The other one also has many film versions.)

    Thanks for the signal boost!

Wish I’d remembered it sooner, Tori! I kept struggling to find an appropriate way to approach the subject… I wanted to talk more about Bill and Nancy’s relationship, and red flags/foreshadowing in the film that indicated how awful the relationship was… but there were more wrong things to say than right, and I wasn’t sure it was good to compare fictional characters to very real situations….

At any rate, hope the carnival’s a hit. Posted the announcement to Facebook, also.

I would like to praise you highly for spelling Oliver! properly with the “!”
Many people carelessly leave it out.

Just found our recently a long-time friend came from a domestically violent family. I just remember them as seeming nice….they apparently only slugged the kids when there was no one else around. Looks like the perfect little world I grew up in wasn’t so perfect after all.

    Will go FB Tori’s event.
