In third grade, I somehow won the school spelling bee. Imagine me, a scruffy nobody, new to public education, defeating all those other kids! The glory, the mystery, the wonder of it all!
My prize was, as I announced to a friend, a paperback copy of “The Genius Book of World Records.”
My teacher overheard and corrected, “That’s GUINNESS BOOK.” Et voila, I was back in my rightful place as a scruffy nobody. Good ol’ reality, always keeping us humble.
While my spelling remains decent (though not award-winning) here are four simple words I regularly misspell:
– Optimist — I mastered this once, but have since relapsed
– Niece — I before E, I know, yet I always have to type it both ways to be sure
What words are you most likely to misspell?
