Far Away Literary Magazine‘s new issue is now online, and guess whose story made the grade?

Katie asked me to submit a true story from my life. I waited until the last possible minute, stayed up late, and sent in “Glass: It’s What’s for Dinner.”

Hardcore fans will remember sad tale this from my previous blog, [Surname] the Bold.

As with all of my writing, the story was worlds funnier in my head.

ALSO characteristic of my writing? Errors. I spotted two big ones, then covered my eyes and ran away.

Don’t let my typos scare you away. Why not make yourself a pot of tea, slip into your pajamas, and curl up with the “For Real” issue?

  • Look at you being all author-y!

Also, I will happily keep you in rice from this day forward if you promise to avoid the silica in the future.

  • We love typos, Rebekah – it’s a little bit of personality. That said, I can’t remember noticing any and it’s possible that Chrissy picked them up in the further revised issue just released.

I hope you contribute again! And of course all of your readers are welcome to also.

  • Yeah, what’s totally For Real about my editing skills is that they’re somewhat lacking! Sorry I didn’t catch (but shh…will fix this weekend and do the old switcheroo. No one will ever know! Uh…wait.)

Loved your piece, by the way! It’s a breath of fresh air and I really, really hope you contribute again.

And kisses to your mum for the compliments on the magazine!! Thank you so much…

  • Jacob – Thank you, Mr. Writer Man!

Katie Interrobang – I’m so rich now, I have TWO bags of brown rice in my kitchen. Swing by, I’ll share.

Katie No Pablo – I like your attitude. Hooray for personality! I’ll be happy to contribute again if I can think of anything to write about.

mum – Thanks, parental figure! Isn’t it a cool magazine?

Chrissy – We’re TOTALLY real. =) I didn’t just misspell a word, I used the wrong word entirely— don’t worry, you’re not obligated to read minds. So happy you liked the piece!

  • Oh my god! I am both amused and horrified.

I made a batch of brownies once with a good friend in high school, and the idea was that we were going to eat them with ice cream, and my mom had even agreed to let us drizzle peppermint schnapps over the whole thing so I was feeling really really adult, and when I took them out of the oven the pan slipped out of my hand and shattered and glass went everywhere. I looked at the ground and wanted to cry, not because I was startled, but because I had been looking forward to the brownies so much, and I looked at my mom and my friend and they looked like they were going to cry, and in retrospect we all had seriously unhealthy attachments to food and it’s a good thing we talked each other out of eating it because left to our own devices we would have, and we didn’t have your guide handy at the time, and it could have just been disaster. Disaster!

Also, I enjoyed the magazine. I rarely read poetry so was tickled to see Hannah Stephenson, one of the only contemporary poets I know of, in there, yay!
