“Back in the day when many if not most of the ‘traditional’ Christian hymns were being written most people could not read musical notation. There were a generally accepted set of tunes used for worshipful music, and the hymnals would have the hymn lyrics written down in a poetry format, with a note indicating which tune should be used to sing the hymn. Often two or three tunes would be suggested as possibilities for a single hymn.
“In that spirit, I respectfully suggest that when you get a free moment you might
want to try singing ‘Amazing Grace’ to the melody of Gilligan’s Island.
