Mitzi Weinman: Staying on Track

“Lots of things can get your day off track. You can’t do much about the unplanned and unexpected, but you can stop derailing yourself.  Do you do do any of the following?

- Surf the internet without clear objectives?

- Spend time on trivia and not enough time on priorities?

- Read e-mail before doing anything else?

-Socialize too long with colleagues?

-Start your day without a written plan?

-Do what is rightfully someone else’s job?

Take a step back and scrutinize your day. Determine your contribution to getting your day off track and make one change.”

– Mitzi Weinman, TimeFinder —— cited in Simple Steps to Organizing Everything , p.162

This morning, I deleted Tetris from my cell phone. Yes, I play a mean game, but NONE of my wildest dreams involve Tetris. It was suckin’ up embarrassing amounts of my leisure time— so I let it go. Like Conrad Birdie, I got a lot of livin’ to do.

How do you stay on track?

  • Las month of february I had a really hard time and lost track of time and organization. I read a book that told me to write my plans every morning and rank them in the level of difficulty. It really helped me… I’m usually very organized, though… I have my agenda and organize everything in my head =)

  • Oh dear. If I followed that advice, I’d never post outfit photos…

Weeell! let me tell you how I face these subjects:

    - Surf the internet without clear objectives?

*I did that frequently. I realised it wasn’t good. One good thing found by chance after an hour of “surfing the net” wasn’t significant enough for me, just “nice”…so….now I just “surf” once in a while when there’s nothing better to do, just for pleasure….is like being Indiana Jones and discovering treasures! Not for everyday life!

    - Spend time on trivia and not enough time on priorities?
It depends on how important your priorities ar for you. One day you just know you have your OWN and AMAZING path to walk….then you enjoy it….so….Priority starts to be written in Capitals ^_-

    - Read e-mail before doing anything else?
I can’t help it! I do it while having my capuccino in the morning! that hepls me to connect with “the rest of the world”….these unkwnown reality!! lol! seriously…it takes me a while to go back to earth after dreaming in the clouds :P email helps! :)

    -Socialize too long with colleagues?
Not now. I used to. But one day “too long” became pointless….short quality time better than hours just “hanging arpund” with nothing to say…..*priorities enter here.

-Start your day without a written plan?
I schedule my days, a few months ago I realized I needed a schadule..that was a GOOD choice! Each day is full now, see if I can accoplish what I expected from me is the challenge to achieve who we really are!

-Do what is rightfully someone else’s job?
I don’t get that….you mean doing some one else’s job? well….If I can and I CARE then why not? friendship is about that…but! I said friendship! be aware to who you are devoting yourself. You can get hurt. That’s not the idea. If it comes from the heart do it! but don’t expect enything…..in order to not getting disapointed you know?

    hugs!

  • Smiley Woman – What was the book? I’m well organized, but I’m also outrageously lazy…

Cynthia – Seems to me that your GAAD and wardrobe posts ARE “on track” for you. Your blog seems to be a great, rewarding creative outlet… cell phone Tetris doesn’t compare with that.

    Angela – No rush!

Amanda -Happy to help! Come back anytime.

Patricia – Lady, it sounds like you are on top of your life and having a grand time. Endless internet surfing and spending HOURS on trivia are big weaknesses for me…

  • I try not to shop when hungry and ALWAYS TAKE A SHOPPING LIST! So, no impulse buys.

Shopping hungry IS dangerous, I agree. I can only avoid impulse buys by 1) avoiding stores entirely and 2) shopping with Mr. Jaunty. I can mosey and browse for ages, but he hates to shop. It’s annoying sometimes, but it DOES save a lot of money.
