When I discovered the King and Queen of Hearts stamps last year, I was stunned by their loveliness:

You’re stunned too, right? Speechless, even?
This was during my secretarial job; after stamping a thousand envelopes with The Simpsons’ yellow, pop-eyed faces, this tranquil couple made quite an impression.
Intricate detail, muted colors, historical influence, distinctive facial features— exactly my style. The artist, Jeanne Greco, knocked my socks clear into next week. I’ve certainly never felt moved to research a stamp’s artist before.
And so the queen, the king, and I mailed many a beautiful letter together.
Then yesterday, my post office ran out. RAN OUT. My all-time favorite stamps are going extinct! Having tasted postal paradise, how can we go back to liberty bells and flashy flags?
Usps.com hasn’t run out yet… but I hate to pay postage for postage? More importantly, I need to save up for a physical exam and a jacket. Stamps have to wait.
To be safe, I saved the King and Queen of Hearts image on my computer. Their majesties will grace my desktop, if not my envelopes.
Have you ever been in love— with a stamp?

Wow — those stamps are amazingly beautiful. Definitely worth saving.
My favorite stamp? Probably the Sam Eagle stamp from the Muppets set. Lora bought a magnet that someone had made from the stamp, and it adorned our freezer for a while.

“This is a slap in the face to American women everywhere!”
Good ol’ Sam.

I love fun stamps! And yeah, I’ve bought them online….
Since I’m back in my hometown now, I have wayyyy less people to actually send letters to. So I can’t buy every cute new design that comes along like I used to. Sigh.

You’ll have to make up excuses to write to people… thank-you notes for every little thing? Postcards bearing knock-knock jokes?

I wish more stamps were plain ol’ First Class. So useful.
I wonder if there’s a reason the animal shelter stamps have more cats than dogs. Maybe the model dogs were harder to photograph? Maybe they’re hoping cat ladies will buy out the store? No idea.
