Happy Birthday, Jaunty Dame!

This is Columbus Day, National Coming Out Day, AND the first-ever birthday of jauntydame.com.

To celebrate, I will now discover a continent 500 years after Leif Ericson, come out of the closet, and buy myself a present.

What, you want a present, too? Something pretty, but small enough to carry everywhere?

Fair enough. How about a vintage handkerchief from my late grandmother’s stash?

This is a very sheer hankie with a machine embroidered “D” (your initial, perhaps?) and printed with curvy li’l bluebells.  Perfect for daintily wiping away tears, tying a small bundle, or practicing your Hosanna Shout.

Interested? Leave a comment with 1) your email address and 2) a favorite “D” word before midnight EST on Wednesday the 13th. A “true random number generator” will pick the winner, and I’ll announce the results before Thursday noon.

One entry per person, international entries welcome.

My favorite ‘D’ word is “dilapidated.” What’s yours?

  • Dewlap! It means “a turkey’s wattle.” I don’t get to integrated it into conversation nearly as much as I’d like.

Happy anniversary, darling! Here’s to many more.

(if the random number generator picks me, pick someone else. the “hanky” is beautiful, but i fear it would be turned into a dog toy or something. thank you for the offer)

was the first word that came to mind. I also like Dauntless, Dexterity, Deluge, Demagogue and Debauchery. What fun!

Happy Anniversary Jaunty Dame! Keep up the splendid, splendid work! I don’t suppose I could be a contender for the vintage hanky? I just never know when I’ll have to do a Hosanna Shout…

Celia – You got me, I had to look this one up. Maybe that “D” is for Diego?

Hannah You’ve just reminded me of another favorite word; “Damn,” as in “Daaaaaaamn, woman, what a word!” Thanks, Hannah!

greyloon D words galore— and of course you’re a contender.

Angela – Hey, you have private students? I didn’t know! I love our “conversations,” you’ve always been so thoughtful.

Amanda – Good word— and thank you so much for reading!
