“Years ago I saw a movie that really impressed me….Maybe called All the Winters That Have Been* or something…I can’t remember the title, but it has Richard Chamberlain playing a guy who visits his uncle in Alaska and falls in love with a local village girl—half eskimo half irish, I think. They go to her little cabin, and she asks “Are you hungry?” When he says “Yes,” she reaches over to a bowl on the table and hands him an apple.
“Ages later it occurred to me that this was meant as some sort of sappily poetical metaphor for seduction…Eve and the Apple….they were in a forest…she was supposed to be a free-spirit-nature girl type…but at the time I thought she was an absolute genius to satisfy the guy’s hunger with an apple rather than fussing around in the kitchen for an hour.
“Apple. Perfect minimalist meal.”

It’s also a perfectly portable meal and if you have good incisors you don’t need utensils.

I’ve got an apple tree that I love….and this year we had so many apples that we even made apple marmalade with vanilla :P (and fig marmalade too!) Last year we made cherry one….fruit is so wonderful! Which is your favorite one?
