I think it was a woman. Maybe she was a big Freud fan, reading too much into the otherwise chaste Little Women. I bet there’s sexy Alcott fanfiction out there, but I’m afraid to look.

Was it a man? Mine was. Some of them seem to operate on the assumption that everyone wants to get nasty 24/7. Maybe it’s true for them, but settle down with the projecting, buddies! I understand that sexuality is a big factor in our lives, but not so big that we can’t babysit or change clothes without it.

Ming – It IS mighty heavyhanded, no one could argue that. Amen on sickly-sweet little Eva. Uncle Tom and Eva?? Hell no!

I once saw an analysis of Little Women that tried to sexualize the way the March sisters sharing beds and changed clothes in front of each other. Please! What else can you do in a house that size? I assume the author didn’t have siblings.

I read Uncle Tom’s Cabin for the first time this spring – an annotated version – and kinda hated it. I think the annotation was a lot of what I didn’t like, actually. Both versions have a moral to them, but Ms Stowe bludgeons you with it. And in the book, little Eva made me want to puke. She was like a female Little Lord Fauntleroy. (The annotations kept trying to point out a sexual relationship between Eva and Uncle Tom, and I didn’t see it.}

Anyway, huzzah for the Small House of Uncle Tom!
