Back when men were men and I couldn’t reach the bathroom sink, my family played a lot of computer games. Jump Joe, Rampart, Dark Ages, Pac Man in 3-D, Dracula in London, Shooting Gallery, Joust, Mahjong… uh…. that Mario-esque thing with the treasure chests and inverted colors. Shareware, Shareware everywhere and not a thing to drink.
Sixteen years have passed since my DOS days, and I’ve never been able to shake the memory of one very special game. The One That Got Away.
Last week, we were brought together by classicdosgames.com, and my life will never be the same.
Mom, Dad, I’d like you to meet… Superfly.
If you don’t hear from me this month, you can bet your sweet bippy I’m with Superfly.
Reunited and it feels so good!

In my family it was Kroz — anyone else heard of that old game?

HAH! I love how the game author puts his home address on screen. Those were the days.

I thought your Leben was that lower half of a lawn-mowered He Man. Jah?

hazelnutmegan – I hadn’t until now, but it has its own Wikipedia page and you can play Kingdom of Kroz at classicdosgames.com. Man, it’s tricky! Monsters everywhere!
Pravit – Isn’t that great? I’d send him a thank you card if I thought he still lived there. This same Nels Anderson dude programmed Shooting Gallery, which was a fun game back when I could get the cursor to work properly.
mum – I am a Frau of many Lebens.

Oh… you have NOT LIVED until you played the old Monkey Island or King’s Quest games. If you want to go even more old school, there’s Hugo’s House of Horrors and the good ol’ command prompted Quest For Glory games.
I could totally nerd out on everyone right here right now, but I digress.

I know Monkey Island!
I’m lousy at command-prompted games. I tried Zork, only got about sixty seconds in before I tore out all my hair and screamed like a banshee.
Nerd all you like, mister! Maybe you could write a post about your favorite old timey games.

Haha. This title tickles me. :)
