As I was walking last summer, I ran into an old church friend . We stood squinting in the desert sun and caught up on old times. She asked probing questions, and we philosophized together. As we parted ways, she said “My husband and I came to your last concert! The devil music!”
My brow furrowed. “Simon and Garfunkel??”
“No, the scary devil music.”
“Uh…. The Raven?”
“Who wrote that?”
“Justin Raines.”
“No no no, not that, it was… hmm……… ”
After much pondering, I realized she was referring to Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana:
She didn’t fool me; everyone knows the devil prefers elevator music.

That was Devil Music? That was scary?
hahahah……
I guess it is a bit more expressive that Primary songs.

well, it is scary when you hear it live and wonder if the wheel of fortune is going to squash or elevate you…

I need to hear it in person then. Adding it to my bucket list.

mum – “Here Comes the Ox Cart” was pretty spooky. Also, “Book of Mormon Stories”.
PhoebeJoy – Squash, judging from the sound of things. =)
mum – I recommend it! it’s a colorful, accessible piece. Never boring.
Ian and I heard a slew of soulless elevator-y music at the laundromat today, my ears almost died of boredom. Lawrence Welk, now THAT’S devil music. I can’t think of any genre less pleasant to me.

Actually, this piece reminded me of some older musicals. If you changed the words to be about the start of a day in a town and a girl who wants to fall in love, throw in a handsome Howard Keel, and then add the towns children, you could have the opening scene!

I find that many scenes are improved by adding Howard Keel.

Devil Music? I would think there’d be more agonizing screams, wail, moans, and most importantly – fiddles!

Fiddles! Of course!
